A Brief History
Bienvenidos Outreach, founded by Beatrice Nevares, opened its doors in 1989, started its food pantry in 1996 and began serving a Sunday lunch program in 1997. The food pantry has helped thousands of individuals and families, many of them homeless.
The Sunday lunch program serves a hot meal on Sundays when the other soup kitchens are closed. At first, Bienvenidos fixed all the food, but as the program grew, additional sources were called upon and now, the meal program is manned by different churches, clubs and organizations in the area on a rotating basis. More than 125 meals are served each Sunday between 1:00 - 2:00pm at the Salvation Army parking lot, to anyone needing a hot meal.
